What is Love?

Aimee and I were just having a conversation about how the world views love and what true love actually is.

Dr. Baucham has a great message about this.

I have it right here to share with you too.

I really think more teens need to hear this.

Love is so much more than what is on television or in the books we read.

Love is a choice.

It is not just an emotion.

I am so glad that my daughter was questioning this. She has seen the love we her parents share, but it is so different from the love her friends say they have with their boy/girlfriends. These young ones are “totally in love” with someone one week, break up with that person and be “totally in love” with a different one the next. She knew in her heart that many of her friends were wrong.  That there is so much more to a relationship than a spark that can fizzle.

Her future husband, where ever he may be, is truly blessed. When she says “I love you” it will mean that she actually loves him, not his wallet, his outfits, his car or his status. It will be the fact that she loves his faith, his morals, his values, the way he treats her, if he makes her laugh, his affinity for music, his intelligence, his creativity, his strength, his loyalty, his passions… I am sure he will be adorable too!! Mostly he will be adorable because he will be honestly “loved” by my daughter for who he internally is.

This kind of love will cause emotions that last forever.

I wish more kids had this talk with their parents.

Just because, I am wondering if anyone else has had this talk with their kids?

Or are you planning to?

August Landmesser -history lesson

August LandmesserAugust Landmesser, Hamburg Shipyard Worker Who Refused To Make Nazi Salute:

A photo of a lone man with his arms folded as hundreds around him perform a salute in Nazi Germany has resurfaced.

The snap, taken in 1936, shows August Landmesser defying the status quo as he witnessed the launch of a navy training vessel in Hamburg.

Landmesser himself was not identified until 1991, the Washington Post reported, after one of his children saw the picture in a German newspaper.

The picture came to light again after a blog, launched to support the victims of Japan’s 2011 Tohoku earthquake, shared it on a Facebook page, presumably as a symbol of inspiration for those still suffering in the aftermath of the disaster.

The site, named Senrinomichi, says: “The road ahead is a long one, comprised of many small steps, the Japanese people will ensure that the journey is completed to the end.”

It also includes a quote by the Chinese philosopher Lao-tzu – “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

A comment accompanying the Landmesser picture posted on Facebook said: “We know little else about August Landmesser, except that he had two children.

“By pure chance, one of his children recognized her father in this photo when it was published in a German newspaper in 1991. How proud she must have been in that moment.”

Landmesser was a former member of the Nazi party but came to oppose Hitler’s regime after fathering children with a Jewish woman.

He was found guilty of “dishonouring the race” under Nazi law and bravely revealed his rejection of the doctrine at the launch of the Horst Wessell at Blohm + Voss shipyard.

Landmesser and his wife, Irma Eckler, were jailed by the Gestapo and their children were sent to an orphanage.

He was freed from prison in 1941 but was soon drafted into the war. He was later declared missing in action and was presumed dead.

But his image and reputation remains as that of: “An example of individual courage and conscientious objection.”

It is the rights and freedom of the individual that matters.

My Garden Grows!!

In my dreams, I have land to plant a big enough garden to feed my family.

Reality is that my backyard is for the kids to play in and just big enough for that.

So I plant my garden where I can.

AND IT IS GROWING!!!!

Silly I know, but it always makes me so happy to see just a few fruits and veggies end up on our table that came from our garden.

This is what is doing well this year.

001 002 003 004 005 006 007

Each one of those pictures is a different bunch of grapes!!

We have only ever had just one bunch.

We have a ton this year!! They taste good too!!

Just waiting for them all to turn purple!!

008

You can see it just thriving next to our orange tree.

It has tons of oranges on it too!!

009

My pepper plant is green….

hoping that means peppers will bud soon?

Down here are the green beans.

010 011

Grasshoppers found the leaves good.

Taking that as a sign these are gonna be the best beans ever!!

012

Have some pretty flowers too.

013 014

My little apple tree is getting heavy with fruit.

015 016

Mixed in my flower beds I have strawberries that are bursting with color and sweetness.

017 018 019

My little rosemary is letting in a few weeds, but still looks good.

020

My tomato seeds finally sprouted.

It was our first time drying seeds and I was not sure they would grow.

Happily they did!

021

Our carrot seeds sprouted too.

022

Michael Jr planted a loquat seed and we have a small tree a few years later.

Still waiting for fruit from it though.

023

I have one red tomato and one green already!!

024

A few corn stalks are growing great in a pot.025 026

Last my blueberry bush.

Planted it last year and got like 15 blueberries.

The nursery said to plant it in a pot and it would to better.

027

I have 3 blueberries.028

The season has just started though.

Oh my onions and garlic I just harvested and they are delicious!!

I think I will plant more of them!

I love having a garden!!

“Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce.”

Father’s Day Foods

Oh my gosh.

I am so full.

We had so much food for Father’s Day.

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and boy did we not only found the way but we paved it!!

My husband was spoiled by our kiddos.

He got to sleep in and was brought breakfast in bed by his littlest cutie.

030She was so proud of the breakfast she made!

Then I put a huge roast in the crockpot with potatoes and carrots before we left for church.

While we were there Belle made her Daddy a bbq rub.Father's Day Food 001Then when we got home we made Daddy chorizo and beans for more breakfast.

He loves chorizo!

Rebecca then gave him her awesome gift of homemade bbq sauce…

Father's Day Food 002…and some of mom’s famous (in house only) salsa.

Father's Day Food 003Isn’t that the cutest labels she put on there?

I will have to find out where she down loaded those from.

On the top of this one she modge podged some pretty paper to give it just that much more love.

She also pre packaged some in little tuppers for his lunch this week.

Such a sweet girl.

So, gave Daddy some chips to eat a bunch of his salsa.

Watched a movie with him and had some great Dad’s root beer Popsicles.

The roast is still in the crockpot making the house smell very homey.

Michael Jr really wanted to make Dad some of his favorite Daddy Dogs though.

So into the kitchen he went.

040This was monumental.

I had to get proof that HE DID THIS HIMSELF.

He made the whole dog meal for not only Dad, but for everyone.

Shocking for sure.

He hates the kitchen.

052He did good!

They all got gobbled up by surprised sisters and Dad before I could get a picture of them done!!

Rebecca made Cherry Bombs.

034I know.

I put weight on just looking at them.

I still ate two though.

They are maraschino cherries wrapped in a cake ball and dipped in chocolate.

032

Amazing treat.

They may not be pretty but they are delicious.

Belle served the pie she made her Daddy too.

050Did Daddy love that one too?

Lets see…..

Father's Day Food 004Oh my yes.

Oh we missed dinner time.

The roast is ready honey.

What?

Your not hungry?

Really?

I wonder why?

Positive point…I do not have to make dinner tonight!

Hope you all had a blessed day that you shared with your Daddy too!!
